Dahlkemper seeking support outside Erie County for marine sanctuary plan

Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper is looking outside the region for support regarding the proposal to establish a federal marine sanctuary that includes Lake Erie and Presque Isle Bay. Dahlkemper said she plans to seek "letters of support" from Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, several western Pennsylvania colleges and universities, and others as local officials prepare to submit an application to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to establish a marine sanctuary in Erie.

Canadian icebreaker expected to arrive in Erie

The Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority has issued a public advisory for Presque Isle Bay and adjacent waters, authorities said. Donjon Shipbuilding & Repair, 220 E. Bayfront Parkway, on Monday is expecting the arrival of a Canadian ice-breaking vessel, which will begin carving a path to the shipyard and turning basin, authorities said.

A bench warrant was lifted this morning on an Erie man charged in a series of bad checks cases, most of which reportedly involved checks written on the closed bank account of the Erie Summer Festival of the Arts. Scott Vincent Palermo, 33, was placed in the Erie County Prison on Thursday after he was detained in Erie County Central Court on a bench warrant for failure to appear for formal arraignment on Monday in bad checks case from September.
