Liquor Store Owner Believes Thieves Targeted Him Before

They knew his name, and about his business. The owner, who was too afraid to speak on camera, said he did not go directly home after locking up his store Thursday, and instead went to the Hustler Casino in Gardena. He thinks he was followed from there back to his gated community home. Four gunmen, who wore gloves, ski masks and dark clothes, broke into his house  on the 1000 block of Park Circle Drive. Hawthorne Police Department are working with Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigators to catch the criminals.

2 charged in string of robberies in Long Beach, Carson, Gardena, Glendora

The pursuit followed an attempted robbery at a Glendora gas station. No cash was stolen in that incident. Three of the robberies occurred Jan. 24: - ¢ A cell phone store in the 1400 block of West Willow Street in Long Beach - ¢ A gas station in the 18000 block of South Avalon Boulevard in Carson - ¢ A liquor store in the 15000 block of Crenshaw Boulevard in Gardena The pair are suspected in another robbery took place Jan. 27 at a convenience store in the 1900 block of East Wardlow Road in Long Beach. Mann's bail has been set at $230,000.

Gardena mobile home resident charged with aiming laser at pilots

Enrique Felix Gomez, 19, faces one count of willfully and maliciously discharging a laser at an aircraft in flight, an offense that could earn him up to three years in prison. Pilots reported incidents three times Saturday evening. "One victim is a civilian pilot flying his personal plane with his girlfriend and family on board," Gardena police Detective Louie Schwartz said. The pilot told Gardena detectives he was temporarily blinded and became dizzy, but was able to land, Schwartz said. Four people were arrested, but only Gomez was charged.

Background Investigator Claims Retaliation In Lawsuit Against Sheriff's Department

Ban Nguyen filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court Friday, alleging violations of his civil rights and the state Labor Code. The suit also names Tanaka, and two LASD captains and two sergeants. Later, a captain asked Nguyen to campaign on behalf of Tanaka, a former LASD undersheriff, the suit states. Nguyen said he was "not interested" and was subsequently demoted to a position doing background checks for prospective civilian members of the department, according to the lawsuit. Police pursuit from Florence to Gardena ends in crash

The sheriff's department received a call at 9:06 p.m. reporting a man in a Ford van almost hit their car and was running red lights and swerving through traffic at Nadeau Street and Crockett Boulevard in the unincorporated Florence area, said Sgt. Oscar Veloz of the sheriff's Century Station. Deputies saw the van westbound on 120th Street at Central Avenue and pursued it until it collided with another vehicle at Budlong and Rosecrans avenues in Gardena at 9:32 p.m., Veloz said.

Suspected robber in critical condition following car chase in Gardena, Hawthorne

Two robbery suspects trying to elude Gardena and Hawthorne police were injured when they crashed near the 110 Freeway in Harbor Gateway, sheriff's deputies said Monday. The chase occurred Sunday night, ending at 11:10 p.m. with a crash on Rosecrans Avenue near the freeway. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but his passenger was seriously injured and reported to be in extremely critical condition. Sheriff's Department homicide detectives are investigating the crash. No other information was released.

Attempted murder suspect holed up in Hawthorne home, neighbors forced to evacuate

A special weapons team has surrounded a house in Hawthorne today where a suspect in an attempted murder case has resisted calls to surrender. The man, who was not identified, refused to open the door when Hawthorne and Gardena police attempted to serve a warrant at 145th Street and Doty Avenue about 5:30 a.m., Hawthorne police Sgt. Robbie Williams said. SWAT officers surrounded the home and were negotiating with the man on the telephone into surrendering. Residents of nearby homes were forced to evacuate.
