Burge's attorney alleges misconduct by AG's office

A lawyer for Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge has accused the Ohio Attorney General's office of prosecutorial misconduct for allegedly withholding documents he contends bolsters the judge's defense against public corruption charges. Attorney Michael Stepanik wrote in court documents filed Friday that although prosecutors have accused Burge of improperly having an interest in Whiteacre North between February 2011 and June 7, 2011, that wasn't the case.

Calling it a "very disturbing" crime, Lorain Municipal Court Judge Thomas Elwell sentenced John Wayne Daughney to six months in jail on charges he hanged his dog earlier this year. "I find it is hard to understand how a person could treat a living, breathing creature, defenseless creature a with such cruelty," Elwell said Wednesday during Daughney's sentencing hearing.

Republic lays off 200 at Lorain mill

Paula Dudukovich, Republic human resources director, said in an email Wednesday that the layoffs were due to "declining conditions" in gas and oil markets and reduced demand from customers.
