RiversideRIVERSIDE: Possible streetcar routes revealed

A draft report on Riverside's proposed streetcar line projects costs and benefits, such as new development, that could come with each of the four routes now being studied. Three routes are roughly 12 miles. One jogs over to the city's airport and is slightly longer. For comparison, the study also looked at an electric trolley bus option, which would cost significantly less but also might not have the same economic benefits as a streetcar. The committee is expected to make a recommendation to the City Council by fall.

Cristian Velasquez and Manuel Barbarin Jr. Are due in Superior Court in Riverside on March 6 for arraignment. Lareanz had no gang ties. "We're not racist at all," Avila said. Velasquez and his girlfriend's brother, 24-year-old Manuel Barbarin Jr., have been charged with murder, committing a murder to benefit a criminal street gang and committing a hate crime. Avila said Riverside police detectives told him that Velasquez was the driver on Feb. 23, 2012, when a vehicle stopped on Georgia Street and a passenger got out and shot Lareanz several times.

Crews Work To Repair Riverside Fire Hydrant Struck By Vehicle

RIVERSIDE -- Crews were working to repair a fire hydrant Saturday that flooded a Riverside neighborhood after being struck by a vehicle. According to the Riverside Police Department, officers were sent to the 4800 block of Sierra Vista Avenue to assess the damage of flooding. A preliminary investigation revealed a silver Honda struck the hydrant. The impact created a geyser of water about 50 feet high, which rushed into resident's yards. Officials have not estimated how long repairs will take.

Riverside Church Volunteer Arrested On Child Sex Abuse Claims

Rudolph Michael Hernandez, 47, was arrested on Feb. 12 for lewd acts with a child and kidnapping, the Riverside Police Department said. The suspect was a volunteer with children's groups at churches in Riverside and Big Bear for several years, officials said. "Information was received that Rudolph Michael Hernandez was in the bathroom in a church alone with a child while he was a volunteer, which caused his services to be terminated with the church," Det. Hernandez was free on $75,000 bail and was set to appear in court on April 10.

RiversideRIVERSIDE: Warehouse workers stole thousands of dollars in goods, police say

Dean Thompson, 34, of Temecula, Froilan Garcia, 57, of Romoland, and Charles Cherry, 48, of Colton, were arrested Thursday, Riverside police said. Sgt. Carla Hardin said in a news release that Ralph's had been experiencing large-scale thefts that totaled more than $1 million. Thompson and Cherry were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside. Thompson's bail was set at $100,000 and Cherry's at $5,000, jail records show. Garcia was booked into the Southwest Detention Center in French Valley with bail set at $5,000.

Armed Robbers Target UC Riverside Students

Students at UC Riverside are being warned not to use their smartphones while out walking on campus after armed robbers stole phones from students near the school. The first robbery happened off-campus Sunday night as two female students unloaded groceries outside their home near Blaine Street and Canyon Crest Drive, officials said. Two men, one armed with a gun, demanded cash and cellphones. "I mean, that's absolutely terrifying," student Amy Holt said. "You can't really fight for your things," student Jennifer Ceron said.

Memorial Service Announced for K9 'SULTAN'

The service will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 11 at the War Dog Memorial at March Field Air Museum, 22550 Van Buren Blvd. In Riverside, adjacent to March Air Reserve Base, according to the Sheriff's Department. Sultan was shot in the neck during a Jan. 21 search in the 40200 block of Clark Drive in East Hemet.
