Board Gives Go-Ahead for Reorganizing County Health System

Riverside County's public healthcare system will have a fresh look and a new structure under plans approved Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors. "What we're doing is the right thing at the right time," board Chairman Marion Ashley said. We will do that, but we're expanding our care. To handle marketing and website design services for the health system in the current fiscal year, which ends June 30. Sarrafian said the county hospital and associated clinics will be featured in billboards, print advertisements, banners and posters.

Student, 19, found dead in Hampton Univ. library

HAMPTON A 19-year-old student was found dead in Hampton University's library Friday. Police received a call shortly after 11:30 a.m., said city police spokesman Sgt. Jason Price. He was part of the National Society of Black Physicists and the Society of Physics Students. He worked to increase youth interest in the sciences. Foul play is not suspected in the death, Price said. The person was not shot, but Price could not immediately release any other details. Pilot writer Mike Connors contributed to this report.

Probationer Accused of Drugged, Reckless Driving Arraigned

Janice Castro was arrested March 21, 2015 following a high speed chase, police said. Janice Anne Castro, 38, of Aguanga was arrested Saturday after a vehicle pursuit that turned into a foot chase near Temecula. The type of drug she was allegedly using was not disclosed. Castro was arraigned before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Mark Mandio at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta. The deputy, who was on a motorcycle, signaled the driver -- later identified as Castro -- to stop, but she refused, Sgt. Steve Fredericks alleged.

Lawsuit accuses SeaWorld of deceiving park guests

The lawsuit's named plaintiff, Holly Hall, is a resident of Temecula, California, who took her two grandchildren and daughter to SeaWorld San Diego in 2011 and 2012. The complaint states that Hall would not have bought tickets to the theme park had SeaWorld disclosed facts about the condition and behavior of its captive whales. SeaWorld provided a statement to the Business Journal challenging the allegations in the lawsuit and connecting it to the author of a book critical of SeaWorld. Hargrove is a former SeaWorld trainer.

Body Found in Forest ID'd as Missing Veteran

The body that crews discovered east of Temecula Monday has been identified as a missing veteran. Robert Cricks, 76, was found dead in a remote area of the Cleveland National Forest, almost two miles from his car, according to the medical examiner's office. She last saw her husband, who suffers from severe dementia, driving away in their Infiniti sedan. Search and rescue crews spent the weekend looking for Cricks. They discovered his car on Sunday about 45 minutes away from the Cal Fire station on 39400 De Luz Road.

DUI Suspect Accused of Stealing CHP Unit Fails to Show at Court, Warrant Issued

Aaron Akira Teruya, 25, of San Diego was arrested earlier this month following incidents in Riverside and San Diego counties. Officers arrived moments later and learned from witnesses that Teruya had been driving his 2000 Ford Focus erratically at high speed just before the collision, said CHP Officer Mike Lassig. According to Lassig, Teruya fled south into San Diego County. San Diego and Riverside County sheriff's deputies swarmed the area and found Teruya about two hours later, hiding in some brush, Lassig said.

Riverside County: Report recommends cutting spending on lobbyists

In recent years, Riverside County has spent less to lobby the state and federal governments. The recommendation is part of a report from Brian Nestande, a former assemblyman and Republican congressional candidate hired in January at a cost of $168,000 a year to coordinate the county's lobbying activities. Nestande can't lobby his former colleagues in the Legislature for one year. With those pacts off the books, the county would spend $290,000 on Sacramento lobbyists per state legislative session, down from $460,000, according to the report.

A 76-year-old man with severe dementia who was last seen March 19, in Temecula is still missing and investigators are asking the public to be on the lookout. Robert Cricks was waiting in a running silver 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan while his wife went inside a McDonald's near Winchester and Margarita roads about 2:42 a.m. when his wife saw the car drive away, Riverside County sheriff's officials said.
